READING

  • Read about important scientists in the discovery of vaccines, Create a timeline

  • Read picture books about pandemics, compare and contrast to Have Courage & Be KInd

  • Read other books about courage

  • Read newspaper articles about the pandemic, Keep a scrapbook

  • Read information about the pandemic on the World Health Organization online

  • Read stories in the newspapers or online about how people were kind during the pandemic

WRITING

  • Create a board game based on the story, where everyone wins and the game ends in a great celebration

  • Write a journal from the viewpoint of an Emergency Room doctor during the pandemic

  • Write a newspaper article about the first vaccine, do your research and show all the vital scientific facts

  • Create a picture book for a Kindergarten child to help them understand the virus

  • Keep a diary of the things your family has done to show kindness and courage during the pandemic, Include your feelings like the ones the Queen talks about in the story; frustration, worry, etc.

  • Write a letter to your health officer to thank and encourage them for their work

COMMUNICATION

  • Research a famous scientist who discovered a vaccine, dress in costume and present your story in a dramatic oral presentation

  • Read a book on the pandemic, or on a scientist who discovered a vaccine and tell what the book is about and convince your audience to read it

  • Create a podcast that includes the chief medical health officer and the Prime Minister or President and have them speak to the country about the pandemic

  • Write a spoken word poem about courage and present it to an audience, upload to Utube

  • Start your own charity, create a website and convince people to be kind and generous toward others by giving to your charity

  • After reading Have Courage & Be Kind, form a bookclub with a few others and discuss the book. You can read your favourite part, discuss the characters, tell how you connected to the book or talk about how the ideas can help with what's happening in the world right now
